CMS Finalizes Annual DMEPOS Accreditation Requirements (Effective 2026)
Beginning January 1, 2026, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has finalized major changes to the DMEPOS accreditation and oversight framework. These changes shift suppliers from periodic accreditation preparation to continuous, year‑round compliance and unannounced survey readiness.
- Annual DMEPOS accreditation and resurvey now required every 12 months
- Unannounced accreditation surveys reaffirmed by CMS
- Temporary accreditation for new locations eliminated
- Certain ownership changes may require full CMS re‑enrolment
- Increased CMS oversight and enforcement of accrediting organizations
